BURRILLVILLE – There are added hazards in the home during the holiday season that need to be discussed with kids in order to help keep them safer. The Fearless Dino Protector Squad firefighting dinosaurs, with big smiles and fire apparatus tails, have been reminding kids and families for two decades across the state of Rhode Island, New England and nationwide about fire safety and burn prevention.
This holiday season make sure kids do not play with candles, lighters and matches. Kids should never play with electrical cords, holiday lights and electrical outlets. Parents and guardians should never leave candles lit in a room that is not occupied for long periods of time. Keep candles out of reach of kids as well as family pets. Animal tails can catch fire, as well as fur on their bodies, simply by being somewhere close to a lit candle. Never overload electrical outlets. Never overload extension cords and plugs. Never run electrical cords under carpets and throw rugs. Only use exterior cords and decorative lights outside and only use interior cords and decorative lights inside your apartment or house.
