NORTH SMITHFIELD – It is a festive annual event to celebrate the Christmas season and in 2024, it featured a volunteer group of young carolers adding a little extra joy to the tradition.

The town’s annual tree lighting took place on Sunday, Dec. 15, an event that begins at the Town Hall gazebo, where Santa arrives on a fire truck provided by North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service, and then moves into the building at 83 Green St., where guests can warm up with crafts, refreshments and photos.

The event is put on by the Parks & Recreation Department and local elf – Recreation Coordinator Kate Pasquariello – organizes the festivities, with everything from holiday decorations to candy canes.

This year, Pasquariello had some trouble finding singers to perform at the celebration, until a group of young friends – made up of both recents graduates and seniors at North Smithfield High School – stepped forward to volunteer.
