EAST LYME, Conn. – A Burrillville man was arrested in Connecticut on Monday after intentionally colliding with a cruiser and leading officers on an extended chase, according to police.
Nicholas Thompson, 36, is now facing charges including reckless driving, reckless endangerment, disobeying signal of an officer, passing on the right, failure to maintain proper lane, first-degree criminal mischief, criminal attempted assault on public safety personnel and resisting arrest.
Police reported receiving numerous calls on Monday, March 31 about a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driving erratically on Interstate 395 near Montville. When state troopers attempted to stop Thompson for erratic driving he sped up, according to reports on the incident.
Several troopers attempted to box in the pickup in Waterford, but Thompson reportedly escaped by driving into a cruiser before leading them on a chase on the highway into East Lyme along I-395 and I-95. Officers later attempted to use stop sticks to disable the truck’s tires, but Thompson kept driving.
He was eventually boxed in and taken into custody.
Thompson appeared in New London Superior Court on Tuesday, April 1 and was ordered held on a $250,000 bond at Corrigan Correctional Center. He reportedly has another court date scheduled for later this month.
