BURRILLVILLE – A fire Friday night was extinguished quickly by emergency personnel causing only minor damage to one structure in Harrisville, but antique vehicles kept inside the building sustained some harm.
Harrisville Fire Capt. Norman Mainville said the blaze at 240 Harrisville Main St. was called in around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, April 4 by a neighboring resident. All Burrillville fire companies responded to the scene with North Smithfield Fire & Rescue personnel on standby for potential EMS services. Mainville said no injuries were reported from the incident, and the Smithfield Fire Department came in to cover town stations.
The fire was brought under control by 11:51 p.m., with the last truck clearing the scene at 2:07 a.m. Saturday morning, according to Mainville.
The garage-style building in the center of Harrisville houses Bakers Boffins Automotive, a business that offers specialty services for high-end classic and antique vehicles.
Mainville said the contents of the building – including cars – had moderate damages from the blaze, while the structure itself only sustained minor damage.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the state Fire Marshal.
