PROVIDENCE – Three high school students attending northern Rhode Island schools were among 54 graduating seniors from across the state who were recently recognized with Lt. Governor’s Leadership Awards.
The awards, which honor students who excel in their studies, show dedication to community service, and demonstrate leadership in their schools or communities, were presented in a ceremony at the State House in Providence by Lt. Governor Sabina Matos.
“Reading the nominations for these awards always fills me with hope. Rhode Island has outstanding young people in every community who are committed to service. It’s an honor to recognize them as emerging leaders,” Matos said. “Their efforts motivate all of us at the State House to work hard on their behalf and ensure our state continues to offer opportunities that match their incredible potential.”

From Burrillville, award winners included Liahna Narciso, who attends William M. Davies, Jr. Career & Technical High School, and Briella Bailey, a student at Ponaganset High School. Mia Remeika, of North Smithfield, who attends North Smithfield High School, was also among the recipients.
Since 1993, the Lieutenant Governor Leadership Awards have recognized hundreds of well-deserving students who make a positive difference in their school communities. Administrators or guidance counselors are invited to select one graduating high school senior who lives in Rhode Island and best embodies the qualities of a student leader.
