Garden sale, Customer Appreciation & NSMS Honor Roll: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

The North Smithfield School District has announced that history teacher Val Carnevale will be the District Teacher of the Year for 2025/2026. Carnevale has been in the district since 2005, starting her career with at the Jr/Sr High School. She joined the middle school in 2008 when it opened.

Feedback wanted

The Groundwater Protection Committee will host a community discussion Wednesday, May 14, where the volunteer town board will look for public input regarding the group’s strategic planning. The GPC is inviting residents to take part in the discussion as part of an effort to engage the community and garner feedback at the event, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St.

The GPC notes that all of their meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend and participate. 

Plant sale

The North Smithfield Community Garden will host a plant sale at Scouter’s Hall on Saturday, May 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Various vegetables, flowers and herbs will be for sale with all proceeds to benefit ongoing volunteer garden operation such as supplies. Meet the gardeners and learn about volunteer opportunities.

Customer appreciation

Brigido’s Fresh Market at 900 Victory Highway will hold a customer appreciation day on Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with music, food and more. The store will offer free hamburgers, hot dogs, and refreshments along with special in-store promotions, and a raffle drawing.

The store, which changed ownership in 2023, noted in a release that it has much to celebrate including refreshed shops now offering a wider variety of products, including organic and natural foods, a bigger dairy and prepared foods selection, and a new island of meats and cheeses. The stores also offer a shopper rewards program, home delivery, and curbside pickup.

Survey

The North Smithfield Economic Development Commission is looking for feedback from local business owners about today’s business climate in North Smithfield. All business owners in town are invited to participate in a survey that will be used to figure out useful and productive ways to support local businesses and business owners.
