NORTH SMITHFIELD – Employees were evacuated from Material Sampling Technologies Wednesday afternoon after a 200-gallon tank of silver cyanide began leaking.
The business, which extracts the compound from products, told emergency responders that the tank was accidentally punctured.
A hazmat team was called to the property at 800 Central St. around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14.
The leak was reportedly contained to the building and a cleanup contractor was called to the site.
Officials reportedly said Wednesday that the incident posed no risk to employees, the public, or the environment. Silver cyanide is highly toxic through skin absorption, ingestion or inhalation of dust.
