E-waste, beach opening & Memorial Day ceremony: Six things to know in Burrillville this week

The booster club is raising funds to support the Burrillville High School Track & Field team.

Dessert day

Dinolicious food truck will have a special “Dessert Day” at Fountain Square in Pascoag on Wednesday, May 21 from 3 to 7 p.m., with an assortment including strawberry shortcake, cream puffs, eclairs, tiramisu, crème brulee, chocolate walnut fudge, peanut butter fudge, Snickers fudge, grapenut pudding, and chocolate covered strawberries. The truck will also offer keto and diabetic friendly strawberry cheesecake with walnut crumb and whipped cream, with all desserts prepared from scratch.

Track team fundraiser

A fundraiser is underway to support the Burrillville High School Track and Field Team and its roughly 37 student athletes. The team’s booster club recently purchased a 10 X 10 tent with the Broncos logo, and has also purchased pizza, sandwiches, snacks, and waters for student athletes on meet days. The group is also planning for a celebration of the team’s graduating senior athletes.

E-waste collection

The town of Burrillville will hold an E-Waste collection on Saturday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works building at 200 Clear River Drive. Items accepted include computers, laptops, televisions, inkjet printers, cell phone, small household appliances and more. Disposal fees will apply to some items including air conditioners and small refrigerators. A full list of items and fees can be found here.

Beach opening

Spring Lake Beach will open for the season this weekend with gates at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24. Check out the summer fun including water slides, an inflatable bounce house, an arcade, ping pong, peddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks and more. Daily admission is $5 for residents or $8 for non-residents, and resident season passes cost $30 for individuals or $40 for families.

Memorial Day

The Burrillville Allied Veteran Council American Legion Posts 17 and 88, and VFW Post 1023 will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26 starting at 11 a.m. at Freedom Park on East Avenue in Harrisville, with a performance by the Burrillville High School band. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, to be held rain or shine.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Screening Subcommittee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 20 starting at 4 p.m. in the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.
