Financial referendum, summer jobs & quarter auction: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Budget vote

The Financial Town Referendum to vote on Glocester’s 2025/2026 budget will be held today, Tuesday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Glocester Senior Center at 1210 Putnam Pike.

Registered voters, only, may cast a vote on the town budget. More information and a sample ballot can be found on the town website here.

Volunteers needed

The town of Glocester is looking for volunteers to serve on several town boards, and is also hoping to build up the “talent bank,” where residents are contacted as positions become available. Those who serve must be registered Glocester voters.

Residents are asked to stop at the Town Clerk’s office to fill out a talent bank application or complete one online here.

The town currently has openings on the new 250th Commission, the Parade Committee, the Economic Development Commission and the Board of Appeals.

Summer jobs

The Glocester Recreation Department has announced summer job openings for 2025, with dozens of positions available for local youth. The application deadline is Friday, May 30 for jobs to run from June 23 to August 1. More information, job descriptions and applications are available here.

Customer Appreciation Weekend

Big John’s Wood Joint at 15 Money Hill Road will hold a Customer Appreciation Weekend from Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25, with discounts, raffles and giveaways. Visit the recently-open shop in Chepachet to check out many unique and handmade items.

The Harmony Fire Department was among the customers at the Ponaganset High School baseball team’s car wash fundraiser over the weekend.

Quarter auction

Stop by Pinewood Pub at 16 Terry Lane on Wednesday, May 21 for vendors and a quarter auction, with shopping to start at 5:30 p.m. Guests will receive five paddles for a $5 donation and eight games of bingo for $10.

Town meetings

The Chepachet Fire District Executive Board will hold a meeting on Wednesday, May 21 starting at 6 p.m. at the station at 1170 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Zoning Board of Review is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, May 22 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is set to be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website.

The Glocester Planning Board workshop originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 has been cancelled.
