NORTH SMITHFIELD – An all-girls scouting troop based in North Smithfield has added another Eagle to their ranks, with a ceremony to celebrate the achievement set to be held this weekend.
Kerith Fontenault of Smithfield has earned Scouting America’s highest advancement award, and will be recognized in a ceremony at Scouter’s Hall on Saturday, May 24.
A member of Narraganset Council Troop 438 North Smithfield, Fontenault joins an elite group of the organization’s young participants. Only approximately 6 percent of all Scouts attain Eagle rank, noted Troop 438 Scoutmaster Megan Reyes. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or synagog-related service project to earn the rank.

Fontenault chose to build feeding station for the PawsWatch Community Cat Center’s program.
“I was so happy to team up with PawsWatch, assisting their community cat team by providing these feeding stations for their dedicated volunteers as they work tirelessly to safely maintain colonies of vulnerable cats in northern Rhode Island,” said Fontenault. “It was great to have their volunteers join with us to build and complete this project.”
Fontenault is a member of Ocean State Baptist Church and is active in ballroom dance, and in the art department at Rhode Island College, where she just completed her freshman year.
Formerly Boy Scouts of America, Scouting America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations.
