Guided walks
The Burrillville Land Trust will host two guided walks this week as part of the celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary.
On Wednesday, May 28, starting at 6 p.m., and Saturday, May 31 starting at 10 a.m., join members for an exciting tour of the newly acquired 65-acre Ernie and Norma O’Leary conservation and agricultural land on Croff Road near the Buck Hill Management Area by the Connecticut line. Participants should use 265 Croff Road, Pascoag, as the GPS reference and park along Croff Road closest to the land trust property. The 1 mile walk along uneven terrain will include a narrated history of the Buck Hill Management Area, including stories of an old tavern and the Buck Hill Schoolhouse. Hikers are asked to wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle. The group will tour historical cemetery #100 to learn about the Lewis family and how they lived in this remote area in the mid-1800s. The cemetery tour will include information about a Civil War soldier and a Revolutionary War soldier. From there, walkers will travel to the property owned by the trust and learn about land conservation and how the property continues to be a working farmland. The tour will conclude with the reading of some poetry written by an early 20th century Buck Hill resident. For more information, send an email to [email protected] or call (401) 500-0433.
