Torch Run, favorite attraction & a plant sale: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Torch Run

The Glocester Police Department is inviting runners from the community to join them as they once again carry the torch in the northern RI leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Rhode Island. The run from Main Street to Powder Mill will take place on Friday, May 30 starting at 9:30 a.m.

Event t-shirts are available for $20. To sign up and receive more details, email [email protected] and include your t-shirt size if you’d like to purchase one.

Favorite attraction

Yankee Magazine named Glocester’s own Harmony Products at 474 Putnam Pike as one of editors’ picks for favorite attraction to visit in Rhode Island. See the listing in the magazine’s recent Travel Guide to New England issue and stop in to congratulate the local business.

Live music

The Smoked Peaches will play at Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike on Friday, May 30 with a show starting at 8 p.m. On Saturday, May 31, Steve Malec & Electric Flood will have a show starting at 7 p.m. and Sunday, the tavern offers its weekly roadhouse blues starting at 3 p.m.

Visit Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike to catch The Quadfathers on Saturday, May 31 with a show starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, June 1, One Eyed Cheshire will play from 2 to 6 p.m.

Plant sale

A plant sale to benefit Glocester Manton Free Public Library and The Village Common of Rhode Island will be held on Sunday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at 404 Saw Mill Road in Harmony. Plants for sale will include annuals, perennials, vegetables and herbs.

Plant donations will be accepted this week prior to the event at the library at 1137 Putnam Pike or by dropping off at 404 Saw Mill Road, the Emond residence.

Fundraiser

Friends of Nanette Gundersen will host a fundraiser on Sunday, June 1 starting at 1 p.m. at Pinewood Pizza & Pub at 16 Terry Lane. The event will feature live music with Papa Joe, raffles, food and more. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased by contacting Katie Lavoie at (401) 787-6641.

Town meetings

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 27 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Land Trust will not be holding their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 27.

The Glocester Historic District Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, May 28 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
