Brewology opens location at Burrillville gas station

BURRILLVILLE – A satellite location of a local cafe chain opened this week on Chapel Street, bringing a new coffee and breakfast option to Harrisville.

Brewology held a soft opening of a shop inside Village Gas at 172 Chapel St. on Monday, June 2. The business joins others operating on a 2.3 acre lot purchased by Zeshan Abid in 2023.

The addition of the coffee shop marks a growing collaboration between Abid’s Village Gas chain and other small, Rhode Island-based businesses.

First opened at Apply Valley Plaza in Smithfield in 2022, Brewology is the invention of four local entrepreneurs: Albert Gizzarelli, Aria Amico, Mike DiPalma and Arthur Paone. The cafe, which sells coffee and espresso drinks, along with smoothies, shakes and breakfast items, opened its second location at Abid’s Village Gas station on Pleasant View Avenue in Smithfield the following year. Unlike the original cafe, the satellite Smithfield coffee shop features a drive through, and does not offer libations and entertainment at night.

On Chapel Street in Burrillville, Abid renovated a building that previously held two spaces that once housed Village Martial Arts and North Country Store to double the size of the convenience store. Working with owners Yelda and Isa Nuay, he brought mediterranean food stop Fresh Pita to the space, with that business opening a counter inside the store on Thursday, May 22. The property also holds auto repair shop Village Motors in a second building.

Last December, Abid presented similar plans for a property in North Smithfield, and has purchased two lots at 1241 and 1253 Eddie Dowling Highway, where he plans to demolish houses to make way for a combined gas station and convenience store, with small restaurants also located inside.

The Harrisville Brewology is now serving grab and go breakfast items including bagels, sandwiches and wraps, along with caffeinated beverages and smoothies.
