North Smithfield VFW Post 6342 made a donation to Troop 1139 Slatersville for the troop's history of service projects focused on American patriotism and honoring veterans. "We always teach the Scouts to try to 'Do a Good Turn Daily' and sometimes it returns to us in unexpected and positive ways," said Scoutmaster Russ Wright. The funds will be used for the troop's upcoming trip to Gettysburg.

Pick your own

Goodwin Brothers Farm Stand at 458 Greenville Road is warning that the hot weather this week will bring the short strawberry-picking season to an end very soon. The farm will offer pick your own strawberries in the field across from the middle school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while berries are still available and some remain unspoiled.

Blount truck

Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road will have the Blount Food Truck on site on Wednesday, June 25 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. selling chowders and other seafood treats. Guests are invited to visit the cows while grabbing dinner and dessert.

At the library

While a number of great programs at the library this week have already filled up thanks to pre-registration, space is still available for a two-day event geared toward older kids and teens creating at Arctic Pendant depicting the northern lights on Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration for both days is required here.

The library will also host morning book group, storytimes and a children’s event with s dogsled story and craft. The library at 20 Main St. is now closed on Saturdays for the summer.

Shredding/e-waste

The North Smithfield Highway Department will hold an E-waste and shredding event on Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at the garage at 281 Quaker Highway.

Dairy bar

Back at Wright’s Dairy Farm, a final event celebrating June Dairy Month will take place on Saturday, June 28 with New England Dairy offering a Mobile Milk Bar from 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy free flavored milk samples and ask a farmer all of your dairy-related questions.

Live music

Live entertainment continues in the Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. with What About Amy on Saturday, June 28 starting at 8 p.m. and Alexa Picillo on Sunday, June 29 starting at 3 p.m.

At The Island at 1600 Victory Highway, start your weekend early with Billy Leetch Acoustic on Thursday, June 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. Po Boys will play at the outdoor venue on Friday, June 27 from 7 to 10 p.m. and The Live Music Band will perform on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. On Sunday, catch Steve Walason from 2 to 5 p.m.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Historic District Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, June 23 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Town Building at 1 Main St. The agenda is here.

The Asset Management Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, June 23 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the North Smithfield Police Station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, June 23 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. for adoption of the proposed 2025/2026 budget. The agenda is here. The council will hold an additional meeting on Tuesday, June 24 at 6:45 p.m., where budget deliberations may continue with an agenda found here, and tax rates are expected to be set at a third meeting on Thursday, June 26 starting at 6 p.m.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, June 26 starting at 3 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.
