Burrillville Town Council President Donald Fox has recently made several misleading remarks about the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee’s role in opposing the artificial turf field installation at Burrillville High School.
While we do have members that are opposed to the installation of artificial turf, the committee has not made any formal statement to that effect. We have stayed out of the controversy in respect to Roberta Lacey, Adam Schatz and all the fine citizens of the opposition because we did not want to make it a partisan political issue. So it is ironic that Mr Fox has gone down this road. (The) campaign for 2026 has obviously started already.
Our opposition is against the Town Council for not listening to concerned residents, refusing to halt installation without further review, and then blaming the citizens for the extra costs while taking no responsibility for their actions, so yes, we are now making it political. Burrillville needs a town council that will listen to its constituents and act accordingly. Yes, they were elected, but not elected to be judge and jury, especially with so much outpouring opposition.
And lest we forget, the town council was in full support of the proposed power plant until the residents revolted. The only difference between then and now? Then the Town Council actually listened and changed course; now, they cast blame and spread misinformation.
