Pat Halpin, sourdough & of course, a parade: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Summer concert

The Glocester Recreation Department’s summer concert series continues this week, with Pat Halpin & the 351’s on Wednesday, July 2. The free shows take place every Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Kent Field Pavilion. Visitors are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the free outdoor events.

Sourdough

The Honey Shop will offer a sourdough bread class at Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike on Wednesday, July 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will explore and learn how to make a perfect sourdough. Class members will adopt a sourdough starter, get a recipe and make their own dough in class, then finish the process by proving your dough and baking in at home.

July 4

The town’s Independence Day festivities continue on Friday, July 4, with the town’s annual road race taking off at 9 a.m.

The Ancients & Horribles parade begins at 4 p.m. on Route 100 and will wind along Route 44/Main Street ending at the Acotes Field. All travel along Route 100 and Route 44 will be shut down starting around 3:30 p.m.

Place Branding Survey

As part of the Economic Development Commission’s initiative to develop a place branding strategy for the town of Glocester, both residents and visitors are invited to complete a survey to help the group better understand how Glocester is perceived. The input will guide efforts to highlight what makes the community unique.

Town meetings

The Glocester Planning Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 1 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
