Luau, free concerts, auditions & more: Eight things to know in Burrillville this week

The Burrillville Farmer's Market continued on Saturday with local foods, goods and entertainment in Harrisville. The markets take place every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion.

Meal application help

The Rhode Island Department of Education will visit Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane on Thursday, July 10 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to assist families in completing the Meal Benefit Applications for the 2025-2026 school year. The applications help to determine the eligibility for the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program that provides free and/or reduced price meals to students during the school year. Additional enrollment events will be held at the library later this summer.

Overdose spike

The Rhode Island Department of Health is issuing an overdose spike alert for increased drug overdose activity from July 1 to July 6, in the northwestern and southwestern sections of the state. This includes Burrillville, Foster, Glocester, and Scituate – Region 1 – and East Greenwich, West Greenwich, Exeter, Richmond, and Hopkinton – Region 10.

Auditions

The Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. will hold auditions for a fall production of Heathers the Musical on Tuesday, July 8; Wednesday, July 9 and Friday, July 11 starting at 6 p.m. Rehearsals are set to begin August 4 and be held Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, with the show set to run October 24-26. The theater is also accepting virtual auditions due by Sunday, July 6.

Luau

Burrillville students in grades 9 through 12 are invited to a Luau Youth Meeting and recruitment event with the Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition on Friday, July 11 in the function room at Spring Lake Beach at 50 Old Hillside Drive from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Learn about the group promoting a substance-free community and get involved with the wholesome, fun group. After the meeting, join the organization for swimming, pizza and lemonade.

Attendees are asked to RSVP to BPAC Coordinator Michelle Gerard at [email protected] or (401) 710-7996 by the deadline of noon on Tuesday, July 8. Parents should plan to attend the first part of the event to fill out paperwork.

Summer concert

The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency will launch the new Fountain Square Park Summer Concert Series on Friday, July 11, with a performance by The Live Music Band on Pascoag Main Street from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Dinolicious food truck on site.

Beach movie

BPAC will hold a second event at Spring Lake Beach a little later in the evening on Friday, with a showing of Captain America Brave New World at dusk. All are welcome to attend the movie, which is free with beach admission.

Free concert

The Riverwalk Times Concert Series also kicks off this week with a performance by The Aviators on Saturday, July 12 at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion starting at 6 p.m. The Dinolicious food truck will be on site and visitors are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the free show.

The Burrillville 250 Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, July 7 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. The agenda is here.
