State and local candidates for political office will file declarations of candidacy this week with completed forms to be submitted to the North Smithfield Board of Canvassers Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 26. More information on the process can be found on the Secretary of State’s website here.

Coffee hour
Good working at 585 Smithfield Road will host its monthly Networking Coffee Hour on Thursday, June 27 from 8 to 9 a.m. Join fellow professionals and enjoy complimentary coffee while you connect and collaborate at the free event.

Pick your own
Goodwin Brothers Farm Stand at 458 Greenville Road has announced that the business anticipates opening for pick your own blueberries around Friday, June 28 or Saturday, June 29. While pick your own strawberries continues this week, the owners note that conditions are poor, and many fruit will need to be thrown away.
The business also offers pick your own raspberries, and notes that those interested should inquire about the offering.
More details on blueberry picking is expected on social media later this week.
Car Cruises
Car Cruises at the Beef Barn Restaurant continue this week, with a gathering of modern and classic cars on the grounds of the business at 200 Industrial Drive to take place on Tuesday, June 25 from 3 to 8 p.m. The event brings out some 200 cars and trucks and is held every Tuesday night through the summer, weather permitting. Guests are invited to stroll the grounds and enjoy ice cream from the Pound Hill Creamery.
Sewer warning
The Sewer Department is reminding residents that baby and cleaning wipes should never be flushed. The department is reporting an increase in the number of flushed wipes, and notes that the material clogs pipes and pumps, and that costly repairs can lead to an increase in sewer bills for users.
Bike Rodeo
Pack 7 Slatersville Cub Scouts will host a Bike Rodeo on Saturday, June 29 starting at 11 a.m. on the blacktop behind North Smithfield Elementary School at 2214 Providence Pike. All children entering grades K through 5 and their families are invited to bring bikes and helmets, and enjoy Alien Ice Cream along with a safety presentation.
The rain date for the event is Sunday, June 30.

The North Smithfield Senior Citizen Advisory Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, June 24 starting at 9:30 a.m. at Scouter’s Hall at 13 Main St. The agenda is here.
