Egg Hunt, Nature’s Classroom & free seeds: Eight things to know in Burrillville this week

Nature’s Classroom

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will host a Nature’s Classroom walk on Wednesday, April 2, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., leading children age 3 to 12 years old and their parents on an educational hike. The roughly mile and a half hike includes a steep hill and attendees are advised to dress for the weather. Walkers will meet by the main entrance to Burrillville Middle School at 2220 Broncos Highway.

The rain date for the event is Wednesday, April 16.

Pollinators

Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane will host URI Master Gardener Carol Horta on Thursday, April 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss pollinators with a talk about why they’re important, and how to attract and protect them. Registration is required.

Clothing resource

The Family Clothing Resource at Berean Baptist Church will be open on Saturday, April 5 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. offering free new and/or gently used clothing for infants through adults including jackets, shirts, pants, shoes, handbags and more. The resource at the church at 474 Chapel St. is open on the first and third Saturday every month and serves residents of Burrillville, Glocester, North Smithfield, Scituate, and Foster, with ID required on first visit.

Visitors are advised to park in the lot at the rear of the church and enter through the rear door, and to bring their own bags.

Clothing donations that are in season may also be brought to the church on the Saturdays when they are open, by calling (401) 568-5411 and leaving a message. No clothing should be left outside the building.

Coffee with Jess

Sen. Jessica de la Cruz invites area residents to the American Legion Binns Building at 111 Chapel St. for coffee and conversation on Saturday, April 5 from 8 to 9 a.m., hosted in conjunction with Post Commander Ray Trinque.

Trinque will provide refreshments and guests are asked to RSVP here to help them plan appropriately.

Free seeds

The celebration of the Burrillville Land Trust’s 25th year continues this week with visitors invited to Serio’s Restaurant at 405 Church St. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 for free Seeds and a free cup of coffee or tea. Seeds, including some out-of-the-ordinary, provided by Ocean State Job Lot, Burpee Seeds and URI Master Gardeners and visitors are invited to take away a packet or two of both vegetables and flowers, while chatting with members of the trust.

The event is free and open to everyone on a first come, first serve basis. Questions can be directed to [email protected] or (401) 447-1560.

Egg hunt

The town of Burrilliville will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 5 starting at 11 a.m. at Branch River Park by Burrillville Middle School. Kids age 8 and under are invited to arrive no later than 10:45 a.m. with their own bag or basket. The event will include raffles, and Dinolicious food truck will be on site, with all proceeds to benefit Burrillville programs.

The rain date for the event is Saturday, April 12.

Comedy fundraiser

The Burrillville Baseball Booster Club will hold a Comedy Fundraiser at Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club at 200 Brook Road on Saturday, April 5 with doors at 6 p.m. and the show to start at 8 p.m. The event will include a pasta dinner, and will also feature raffles, a 50/50 drawing and cash bar. Tickets cost $40 and can be purchased at https://www.funny4funds.com/events.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Affordable Housing Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, April 3 in the town annex at 144 Harrisville Main St, The agenda is here.
