Blasting, Radio Badland & strawberry shortcakes: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Blasting

The town is notifying residents that Material Sand & Stone will be performing blasting on Tuesday, June 3 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Pine Hill Quarry at 14 Pine Hill Road.

Tanks complete

The North Smithfield Water Department has announced that the project to update town water tanks is coming to an end, thanking residents and businesses for their patience with the work. The project, which began last year, included demolition of two outdated tanks and rehabilitation of a third on Comstock Road.

End of school year

We’re in the last weeks of school for North Smithfield students, with preschool and kindergarten ending this week, and days packed with field days and fun celebrations for the rest of the students.

The graduation for the Class of 2025 is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 6 in the courtyard of North Smithfield High School at 412 Greenville Road from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The rain date for the ceremony is Saturday, June 7 from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Entertainment

Car Cruise season is now underway at the Beef Barn Restaurant every Tuesday afternoon, and outdoor venues in town have begun seasonal live entertainment. This week, catch Northeast Groove on Saturday, June 7 starting at 8 p.m. at Lindy’s Plastic Palace at 98 School St. and Anthony Deyoe on Sunday, June 8 from 3 to 6 p.m.

At The Island at 1600 Victory Highway, it’s The White Shadows on Friday, June 6 starting at 7 p.m.; Radio Badland on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m.; and Johnny Blackout on Sunday starting at 2 p.m.

Member of the North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service took part in the Special Olympics Torch Run last week.

Shortcake

The North Smithfield Heritage Association invites residents to enjoy old-fashioned strawberry shortcakes while they tour the one-room schoolhouse at 190 School St. on Saturday, June 7 starting at 10 a.m. View artifacts as well as yearbooks from Kendall Dean School, Halliwell School and NSHS and browse the Forestdale Schoolhouse gift shop.
