Mini heat wave?

The Glocester Emergency Management Agency warned residents on Sunday, June 1 about the potential for an early season stretch of hot temperatures expected Wednesday and Thursday, June 4 and 5.

“We also expect it to be rather humid, especially on Thursday when the peak of the heat is most likely,” warned the EMA. “This may affect older residents and those that are ill, please check on these individuals during this heat.”

Current forecasts call for highs in the 80s with rain expected on Friday.

Open farm

The Rusty Buckle Petting Zoo at 138 Tourtellot Hill Road will hold open farm hours this week on Wednesday, June 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rub a pig’s belly, or snuggle with goats and sheep at the petting zoo, take a pony ride or load the family into a wagon for a tractor-drawn hay ride.

Graduation

Ponaganset High School at 91 Anan Wade Road will hold a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 on Friday, June 6.

Congratulations to all of this year’s Chieftain graduates.

Bingo

The Chepachet Grange at 28 Chopmist Hill Road will host bingo on Friday, June 6, with doors to open at 5 p.m. and games starting at 6 p.m. There will be food available and 10 packs of six cards for $10.

Halfway to Halloween

JEX Entertainment will hold a “Halfway to Halloween” event at Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike on Friday, June 6, with music from On Your Deathbed, In Shadows, Dead With Days and more. There is a $10 cover for the all ages to show, to feature raffles and a costume contest.

Also this week at Hill’s Tavern, catch Smokin Mirrors on Saturday, June 7 starting at 8 p.m. and Radio Badland in a show Sunday, June 8 starting at 3 p.m. At Cady’s Tavern, it’s Brothers All Band on Friday starting at 8 p.m. and Hard Rain on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

The Glocester Board of Contracts & Purchases will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 3 starting at 2 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
