Training

The North Smithfield Police Department participated in an active shooter training today at North Smithfield High School on Greenville Road. Those who took note of the police presence should note that the multiple cruisers posted at the school were just part of the training.

Juneteenth

Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth and there will be no trash and recycling pick up on Thursday. Collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Blood drive

The annual Scott Wright Memorial Blood Drive will take place on Thursday, June 19 from noon to 8 p.m. at Village Haven Restaurant at 90 School St. To make an appointment visit ribc.org/drives and use code 4017.

Since the first blood drive was held in Scott’s memory in 2011, more than 2,300 people have turned out to donate, saving many lives.

Everyone is also able to donate in Scottie’s memory at any Rhode Island Blood center drive using Sponsor Code 4017

Dinner Party

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will hold a dinner party at the Village Haven at 90 School St. on Friday, June 20 starting at 6 p.m. The public is invited to join the group for family-style chicken for a cost of $35 per ticket. Tickets can be purchased by check mailed to NSHA, P.O. Box 413, Slatersville, R.I. 02876, or in person at Village Paint at 900 Victory Highway or Town Hall at 83 Green St.

Entertainment

The Island at 1600 Victory Higway has a busy schedule of live entertainment this week, starting with Acoustically Dead on Thursday, June 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. On Friday, June 20 catch Lifelong Obsession from 7 to 10 p.m., and Brad Perry and Down to Earth on Saturday, June 21 from 7 to 10 p.m.On Sunday, the venue will have loaded bloody Marys and a pitch tournament starting at 1 p.m.

In the Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. see King Vintage on Saturday, June 21 starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, Drew Carey will perform starting at 3 p.m.

Yoga

Sunday morning yoga on the grounds of the Beef Barn Restaurant at 200 Industrial Drive will host Yoga with Ashley starting on Sunday, June 22 at 9 a.m. The flow-style class offers options for all levels and costs $10 per class. Participants should bring a mat and water.

Car Cruises at The Beef Barn also continue this week on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. weather permitting.

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, June 16 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
