
Recreation
The Glocester Recreation Department has announced the time schedule for swim lessons at Marion Irons and Spring Grove Beach, set to begin on Friday, June 27. Lessons times and locations for the various age groups can be found here.
Due to the heat advisory this week, the department also postponed the start of tennis lessons and the summer runner program, which will now begin on Wednesday, June 25. Walking Club will resume on Monday, June 30.

Cool off
Harmony Library postponed the planned kickoff for its summer reading program – also due to the heat wave – and is reminding residents they can always drop by the facility at 195 Putnam Pike – or Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike – to cool off, with doors of both opening at 10 a.m.
The Chepachet Fire Department advised those who don’t feel well in this week’s dangerous heat to call 911. The department reminded residents to stay cool and hydrated, avoid prolonged periods in the heat, look in on elderly neighbors and four legged friends.

Closing
The Harmony Corner Store at 365 Snake Hill Road has announced the sad news that the business will be closing due to a change in the family’s schedules and circumstances. The store will have its last day in business on Monday, June 30.
Summer concerts
The town’s summer concert series kicks off this week, with a free show by The Bridge on Wednesday, June 25 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Kent Field Pavilion. The concerts will continue on Wednesdays, with Pat Halpin & the 351’s on July 2. Whiskey Road Band will play July 9 followed by Atwater Donnelly July 16, Roots Run Wild July 23, and CarTune Heroes July 30.
Visitors are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the free outdoor events.
Fireworks
The town’s celebration of Independence Day begins this week with music and fireworks at Glocester Memorial Park on Friday, June 27. The event will include a live performance starting at 6 p.m., with fireworks set to begin at 9 p.m. The rain date for the event is Saturday, July 12.

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 24 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, June 26 starting at 7:15 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website 48 hours in advance.
The Glocester Zoning Board will not be holding its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, June 26.
