BURRILLVILLE – A local photographer, Meagan Sharum of Mapleville, rebranded her wedding and portraiture photography business last month and expanded it to offer new services such as photo restoration, painted wedding portraits and murals, she said.

Sharum of Meg Rose Creative, formerly Sharum Photography, is a Burrillville native and has been a photographer for more than 17 years, she said.

“I started in Houston, when my kids were born. I worked for JC Penney Portraits and Target Studios, but then I realized I can do this on my own,” Sharum said.

For years, Sharum focused on commercial and wedding photography, until this month when she announced the name change and expansion of the business.

“I just wanted to get back to my old, creative self,” she said. “I used to do murals in people’s homes. I’ve taught art classes. I’ve taken summer classes at RISD, and I loved coming home covered in paint. I wanted to empower myself by taking my business back.”

Her new offerings include original artworks and painting, including live wedding painting and painting from wedding photos, and she has plans to offer art classes, photo walks and gallery nights, she said.

“This isn’t just a photography business anymore,” Sharum said. “This is my full time job. I’m excited because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I was kind of concerned because everyone knows me as Meagan Sharum, but reclaiming my creativity and doing something I love and enjoy is so worth it.”

Sharum can be found on Facebook as Meg Rose Creative, online at megrosecreative.com or contacted at [email protected].
