WOONSOCKET – Two women were ordered held as bail violators as a result of their arrest on drug charges following a motor vehicle stop on Monday, July 14, police say.

Denizia A. Flores, 31, of no permanent address, and Jennifer Sousa, 34, of 55 Eddy St., in the Chepachet section of Glocester, were both charged with possession of a controlled substance in the amount of 10 grams or less after police stopped a Jeep with the Rhode Island commercial vanity plate REDSOX, according to police reports.

Flores was charged with two counts of the offense, and both women were wanted on Superior Court warrants for failure to appear for hearings associated with 2023 offenses, also for possession of a controlled substance, according to the judiciary’s web site.

Patrolman Randy Vittini’s report says the two women were passengers in the Jeep and Flores, in the front, appeared to be making “furtive movements” when he pulled the vehicle over in front of Bob’s One-Stop on Cumberland Street about 11 a.m.

Both women denied being in possession of any contraband when officers inquired at the scene. And a cursory frisk of both yielded nothing illegal.

After they were taken to police headquarters for a more thorough search, however, police said they found cocaine and powdered clonazepam, a prescription tranquilizer, hidden in Flores’ bra. Similarly, Sousa had cocaine hidden in her bra.

The judiciary’s records say both women were the target of Superior Court judges’ warrants for failure to appear for hearings associated with prior charges of possession of a controlled substance.

As a result of their arrest on new charges, both women were also charged with being bail violators  and subsequently ordered held at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending formal hearings on the matter. Both are due back in court on Tuesday, July 29, according to the judiciary’s web site.

Meanwhile, the operator of the Jeep was not charged with any offense. Police said an initial registration check indicated that the REDSOX plate was suspended, prompting them to initiate a stop of the vehicle. Although the operator wasn’t carrying any documents with him, a closer look at the DMV’s records revealed that that the vehicle was, in fact, registered, police reports say.
