GLOCESTER – The owner of the Putnam Pike property that holds the Family Dollar and a post office has been ordered to fix the parking lot or face fines and legal action by the Glocester building and zoning official.
Mitrelis Family Ltd. Partnership, located in Providence, was sent a second and final notice of violation of the Rhode Island property maintenance code on Monday, July 21.
According to the letter, an inspection of the property last week revealed violations in the areas of sanitation; grading and drainage; and sidewalks and driveways.

The parking lot at 1151-1153 Putnam Pike has been the subject of many a complaint on social media. Mitrelis purchased the busy 2-acre Chepachet Village lot for $1.6 million in 2000 according to town property records. The building, which also holds DiPetrillo’s Bakery, was built in 1960. It is currently assessed at $1,494,700 and also features a second concrete garage-type building.
“This letter is to inform you that you have not made any attempts to correct this violation at the above referenced location except for the temporary patching you did a few months ago,” noted Building & Zoning Official Dennis Begin. “I have spoken to you on numerous occasions regarding this violation but (you) have yet to follow through.”
Mitrelis now has 30 days to make permanent repairs to the parking lot before the matter is turned over to the town solicitor for legal action and subject to fines for noncompliance. Penalties could total up to $50 per day for each violation.

What are the actual code violations? You know it’s going to be a court case where the town and owners are not looking at things the same way. Is the town demanding a complete repave or can the owner just seal coat it. Complete repaving will close those businesses for 4-5 days. Lot of unanswered questions
Big time trip and fall hazard. It’s best to replace it before you get lawsuits from those injured from tripping in potholes. The puddles from the uneven pavement is also an issue on the right side when it rains.
They also should provide a trash can and cigarette butt dispenser because it’s constantly littered with these things. Thanks Glocester officials for taking care of us! I love this town.
It’s about time! I avoid going there if I can get what I need elsewhere.
About time. It’s literally the worst parking lot in existence. I always end up parking on the side of Family Dollar to avoid the chaos!
