Peaches, fall ball & Bingo night: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Victory Day

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, August 11 in observance of Victory Day and there will be no trash or recycling collection in North Smithfield. Trash collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Pick your own

It is now pick your own peaches season at Goodwiin Brothers Farm Stand at 458 Greenville Road and the farm will allow visitors to fill up half peck bags from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, August 11. Donut peaches cost $16 for the first half peck and any additional half pecks thereafter are only $12 each. Pick-your-own blueberries is also still ongoing at the farm.

Entertainment

The Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. will host The Live Music Band on Saturday, August 16 with a show starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, August 17, Don Colt will play starting at 3 p.m.

At The Island at 1600 Victory Highway will hold Bingo Night on Wednesday, August 13, with games starting at 6:30 p.m. Entry to the public event costs $15, On Thursday, August 14, it’s Lacey Cheryl starting at 6 p.m. and Northeast Groove will play the outdoor venue on Friday, August 15 from 7 to 10 p.m. The Core plays from 7 to 10 on Saturday, August 16 and on Sunday, August 17, it’s Johnny Debit from 3 to 6 p.m.

Fall ball

Registration for North Smithfield Girls Softball fall ball season is open through Saturday, August 16 for 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U age divisions. The eight week session will begin September 1 at Pacheco Park and costs $80. Register here or contact [email protected] for more information.

Trip to Newport

The Meadows Residents Association at 2 Village Way is sponsoring a trip to the Newport Playhouse to see the show “Cosmo St. Charles is Dead and Someone in This Room Killed Him,” on Wednesday, Oct. 15, leaving at 9:45 a.m. The public is invited to join the outing at a cost of $157 per person. The cost includes round trip bus to the venue, a play, cabaret, buffet and all related fees.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service Board of Directors will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 12 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the station at 1470 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Groundwater Protection Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The Public Art Advisory Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, August 14 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
