PAWTUCKET – A woman accused of stealing $60,000 from a safe in 2020 was picked up on a warrant by North Smithfield police this month, and is now facing the five-year-old larceny charge.

Cynthia Synosch, 53, of 60 School St. – an affordable housing complex for the elderly and disabled known as Colonial Village – was arrested on Wednesday, August 6 and turned over to the Pawtucket Police Department for the outstanding felony.

According to the police narrative, Synosch was wanted for an incident reported to Pawtucket police in February of 2020. The victim told officers that she had given Synosch her purse – which contained a key to the safe in her home on Drolet Avenue – to hold on to while she was away.

The victim said she received the purse back but the key was missing and she discovered that the door to the spare room where her safe was kept had been locked. The Pawtucket woman said she hired a locksmith to access the room and the safe, and discovered the money was missing.

The victim said she and Synosch were the only people with access to the home, and Synosch had the only copy of the key to the safe.

Synosch was arraigned in 6th Division District Court on Thursday, August 7 and her bond was set at $10,000 personal recognizance. She is due back in court on Thursday, Nov. 6.

  1. Something is fishy. If the woman was going to be away, why not take her purse with her, or lock it away also in the safe? And hold onto the key herself….? If they found the money, then that nails it of course. Otherwise, seems like the perfect frame of a totally naive friend that walked right into this unwitting set up. Hope we see the follow-up….

      • True , but if the friend was going away, why not take some money or all, with her? Hopefully they have proof of pictured one spending it or whatever…..I know I learned from this! I would never want to be entrusted with such. I would refuse the request …would advise put it in a bank, lol.
