BURRILLVILLE – With schools back in session for the year, our lives are much busier and there are plenty of distractions that we deal with in our day-to-day race to get everything accomplished. Occasionally, we can forget that little kids are out and about exploring their worlds, and sometimes these explorations can be hazardous.
We should always keep vehicle keys and fobs away from little kids. Keep them out of sight or out of reach if you happen to have key and fob hooks near doorways in your home. One of the safest things we can do to help prevent unintentional injuries and possibly save a young life is to always keep vehicle doors locked and not accessible to young children. Vehicle entrapment prevention is very easy and helps keep kids safer around family cars and trucks.
Keeping kids out of harm’s way is a full time job for parents and guardians, and that’s very important to remember.

Jim Weicherding is a Burrillville resident, and the founder and creator of an award-winning traffic safety effort Seasons of Safety. Weicherding contributes kids’ coloring cartoons, which can be printed and used to help parents discuss safety issues with their children. He has a long list of police officers and firefighters in his family and has worked with law enforcement and firefighters in a creative public safety capacity for more than two decades.
