GLOCESTER – A woman who received more packages than she ordered in a delivery last month wound up arrested after a neighbor reported watching her assault a UPS driver, and threaten him with the scissors and knife used to open the boxes.
Karen Druziako, 64, was charged with felony assault, disorderly conduct and assault upon a delivery person following the incident on Thursday, August 14.
According to the arrest report, police were called to Druziako’s home on Airy Acres Drive for a report of a UPS driver being chased around with a knife. On the scene, officers say they found Druziako standing at the rear of the delivery truck with a large steak knife and a pair of scissors in her hands.
The driver, a 54-year-old man, said Druziako’s order had been doubled on accident and a verbal argument occurred while they were trying
to resolve the error. The man said he suggested that she open every box in order to see which packages were correct.
According to the victim, Druziako became “extremely agitated,” by the suggestion and began opening boxes with a large knife and large pair of scissors. He said she became more upset during the process and approached him several times holding the potential weapons.
The driver felt threatened and retreated to the UPS vehicle, and Druziako reportedly followed him, still waving the knife and scissors around and yelling at him. He said he asked her several times to put the knife down and eventually yelled out to a neighbor for help.
Police say Druziako did not listen to them either when they ordered her to put the knife down, and officers had to threaten to tase her multiple times before she finally complied. A neighbor told police she witnessed Druziako kick the driver and approach him with the knife in her hand.
Druziako appeared in 3rd District Court and was released on $20,000 personal recognizance. She is due back in court on Monday, Nov. 10.
