Book hike

The North Smithfield Library will host a book hike at the Booth Pon Conservation Area on Monday, Sept. 29 starting at 4:30 p.m. in partnership with the North Smithfield Land Trust. Follow Alice ‘s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, by exploring the trails on a guided walk with the story read aloud at each box with Miss Renee.

Visitors are also invited to do the hike on their own by following the bright pink markers with “Drink Me” and “Eat Me” on them. Search along the ground for the cache boxes to find the characters that Alice meets on her adventure. Download the pamphlet that goes with the hike here.

Final cruise

If you’ve missed the weekly car cruises at the Beef Barn Restaurant all summer, this week will be your final chance to catch the event before it ends for the season. Stroll the grounds of the restaurant at 200 Industrial Drive to check out dozens of unique and classic cars from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Students and staff at North Smithfield High School wore teal to show hope and purple to show support of mental health awareness last week to acknowledge suicide prevention month.

Great Apes

Animal Rescue RI will present Great Apes on Wednesday, Oct. 1 starting at 10:30 a.m. with Jane Greco Deming. No registration is required for the event, which will include a presentation followed by a special surprise at Scouter’s Hall at 13 Main St.

Transcription

Join the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park as they visit North Smithfield on Wednesday, Oct. 1 for a Revolutionary War pension files transcription event at Heritage Hall at 101 Green St. starting at 6 p.m. Participants will learn about the value of wartime pensions and hear service stories about patriots from the Blackstone Valley. Then, rangers will offer a training on how to transcribe records online for this project. Bring a laptop computer to begin transcribing.

Paint night

The Art of You at 73 Eddie Dowling Highway will host a Fall Paint Night on Friday, Oct. 3 starting at 6 p.m. Registration costs $40 and can be found here.

Run for office

The North Smithfield Democratic Town Committee will hold a free candidate training workshop on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Good Working at 585 Smithfield Road. Learn how to raise money for a campaign, about deadlines for filing and registration, strategies and more.

The North Smithfield Heritage Association held its annual potluck BBQ over the weekend.

Live entertainment

The Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. will host Wicked West on Friday, Oct. 3 and Radio Badlands on Saturday, Oct. 4., with both shows starting at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 5, the venue will hold its monthly meat raffle, starting at 3 p.m.

The North Smithfield Senior Citizens Advisory Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, Sept. 29 starting at 9:30 a.m. at Scouter’s Hall at 13 Main St. The agenda is here.
