BURRILLVILLE – A man who fell through the floor and landed in the basement of a home under construction has died from his injuries according to Burrillville police.
Robert Leech, 64, of North Smithfield succumbed to his injuries at Landmark Medical Center following the accident, the department announced on Friday, Oct. 10.
Police and personnel from the Harrisville Fire Department were called to 1249 Sherman Farm Road for reports of an accident on Thursday and reportedly found Leech lying on the floor unresponsive. The property is owned by BC Realty and Design LLC according to town property records.
“Witnesses on scene stated Mr. Leech was part of a construction crew working at this location when he fell through a stairway opening to the basement,” noted a release on the incident.
Police say Leech fell approximately 10 feet and struck his head on a concrete floor. Rescue personnel began treatment at the scene and were able to stabilized the victim and transport him to Landmark in Woonsocket. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The department noted that Occupational Safety and Health Administration was contacted and informed of the incident.
