Columbus Day
Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13 in observance of Columbus Day and there will be no trash and recycling pick up. Collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Open house
North Smithfield High School at 412 Greenville Road will host an Open House on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visitors will have the chance to meet the teachers, tour the building and explore available programs. The event will end with free ice cream.
Walking tour
The North Smithfield Heritage Association will host a free walking tour of Reservoir Three on Saturday, Oct. 18. View the Great Wall, the ruins of Obed Paine Farm, and a 19th-century quarry. Participants should wear good walking shoes and bug spray, bring water, and meet at 10 a.m. at the Grange Road parking lot of North Smithfield High School.

Pawpaws
The North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department will offer an introduction to pawpaws on Saturday, Oct. 18 starting at 1 p.m., a free event to be held at Scouter’s Hall at 13 Main St. Learn about the varieties of the native fruit and what it takes to grow them. Attendees will have the chance to taste the fruit and purchase some to take home.

Car cruise
Allie’s Road to the Stars, a car cruise to benefit the Allie Saad “Learn, Do Heal and Love” Foundation will be held on the grounds of The Beef Barn Restaurant at 200 Industrial Drive on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no pre-registration for the event, which is presented in conjunction with Road Angels Club, and the cost to enter is $10 per vehicle, with plaques for the first 100 cars. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Other entertainment
The Plastic Palace at Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. will host The Live Music Band on Friday, Oct. 17 starting at 7 p.m. and Strumdawgs on Saturday, Oct. 18 starting at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 19, it’s Don Colt starting at 3 p.m.
The Island at 1600 Victory Highway will host a meat raffle on Saturday, Oct. 18 starting at 3 p.m.

The North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
