GLOCESTER – A 45-year-old Glocester man will face a competency hearing this week with outstanding charges from repeated arrests over the past two years for prank or obscene phone calls, including dozens allegedly made in September to the Glocester Police Department.
John Koehler of Snake Hill Road was held without bail following his latest arrest in Glocester after numerous bail violations for similar charges both in town, and in the neighboring towns of Smithfield and Scituate.
According to his arrest report, Koehler called the GPD landline repeatedly on Saturday, Sept. 20 while highly intoxicated.

“Koehler spoke with vulgar language, mentioned several Glocester police officers by name in an inappropriate manner, and was yelling obscenities and indecent language loudly,” notes the report.
At the time, Koehler had several warrants out for his arrest, including on charges out of Glocester of threats to public officials, and crank or obscene phone calls dating back to April of 2023. He was initially released pending a hearing in that case, but has violated the terms of his bail three times, according to the state criminal database.
Last October, he was arrested for crank calls by the Smithfield Police Department and again by Glocester the following week in charges also still outstanding.
In May of this year, the same charge came from Scituate Police, followed by Glocester the following week.
Seven cases from the various counts are still pending, with a hearing set to take place on Thursday, Nov. 13 before Judicial Officer James Caruolo.
