GLOCESTER – A fire at Glocester Motor Inn on Tuesday afternoon displaced at least two dozen residents, with one also suffering burns.
Firefighters were reportedly called to a blaze at 2392 Putnam Pike around 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16 to find one unit of the multi-building motel fully involved. Crews, including mutual aid from several surrounding communities, fought the flames for several hours, with multiple rooms damaged.
One person was reportedly burned in the two alarm blaze, and was evaluated at the scene, but was not taken to the hospital.
The Red Cross was called to assist those displaced, and Mr. Z’s Restaurant opened its doors to provide food and warmth to both victims and responders, according to reports.
The Rhode Island Fire Marshal’s Office said Wednesday that the cause of the fire was accidental, due to maintenance personnel using a torch to solder pipes that ignited surrounding combustibles while doing plumbing work.
