BURRILLVILLE – Snowy road conditions Thursday afternoon caused a car to roll off a state roadway, hitting a pole and landing on its roof, but the driver walked away uninjured, according to Burrillville police.

Officers were reportedly called to the single car rollover crash on Route 102 around noon on Thursday, Jan. 1. On the scene, both a witness and the 18-year-old driver – the sole occupant of the vehicle – told police the crash was caused by snow that had yet to be plowed in the right lane of the highway.

“That’s how the whole accident actually happened,” said Burrillville Police Lt. Robert Veader. “He ended up losing control of the vehicle, rolling over and then striking the pole. Once he turned into that right lane, the vehicle lost control.”

The Porsche could be seen sitting on its roof in a ditch on the northbound side of the roadway between Bella Restaurant and Burrillville Middle School. A utility pole had snapped in the crash, and Rhode Island Energy had to cut power to the area to complete repairs.

Veader said that speed was not believed to be a factor in the crash and the that driver received no citations.
