Quilt exhibit, adopt a rescue & spring baseball: Six things to know in North Smithfield this week

Tree collection

Pickup of discarded Christmas trees in town will begin on Monday, Jan. 5 and continue through Friday, Jan. 16. Residents may also drop their trees off at the Highway Department at () Quaker Highway on Saturdays during recycling hours. The week of January 5 is also a recycling week.

Quilt exhibit

The North Smithfield Art Committee will host a quilt exhibit at Town Hall at 83 Green St. on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. Select works from the Blackstone Valley Piecemakers will be on display and will remain at Town Hall through January 30.

Adopt a rescue dog

PetSmart at 15 Dowling Village will host an adoption event with rescue dogs on Friday, Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors will be able to meet and adopt the same day. View all the pets available with Animal Rescue Kingdom here.

Pantry dates

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pickup dates this month will take place on Tuesdays, Jan. 20 and 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays, Jan. 24 and 31 starting 10 a.m.

The Food Pantry is open to North Smithfield residents who must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms their address. Guests can attend the pantry all open dates each month at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common.

For the month of January, the pantry is seeking donations of baked beans, canned fruit and tomato sauce.

Spring baseball

Registration is now open for North Smithfield Little League’s Spring Baseball program with division for kids ages 4 to 16. Sign ups will be open through February 23 with evaluation day to be announced. Register and learn more here.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, Jan. 5 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
