Martin Luther King Day

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19 in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and there will be no trash or recycling pickup. Collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works Refuse & Recycling at (401) 568-4440 ext. 12.

Lecture/tour

The Burrillville 250 Commission will host “Famous People of Burrillville” on Tuesday, Jan. 20, the latest installment in the ongoing lecture series. The lecture will take place at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

An tour to accompany the lecture, presented by the Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society, will take place on Saturday, Jan. 24 starting at 10 a.m. Participants will meet at First Universalist Church on Harrisville Main St.

Burrillville Middle School students in the Recyclable Art class learn how to transform everyday recycled objects into something usable last week. Their spring projects, turning trash into fashion, will be exhibited at the annual Trashion Show event during the BMS Night of Innovation on Thursday, May 21.

Shekarchi, Knight & Foulkes

The Burrillville Democratic Town Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Pascoag Public Library at 57 Church St. starting at 6 p.m. Guest speakers will include Rhode Island Speaker of the House Joseph Shekarchi, candidate for governor Helena Foulkes, and candidate for Attorney General Jason Knight. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Transcription

Pascoag Public Library at 57 Church St. will host a Revolutionary War pension file transcription event on Thursday, Jan. 22 starting at 6 p.m. with rangers from Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park. The public is invited to contribute to the transcription of these handwritten records from the National Archives. Comprehensive instructions and guidance will be provided and attendees are invited to bring a laptop.

The Outsiders

The Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. will host auditions for The Outsiders adapted from the book by S.E. Hinton on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Prime Rib Dinner

The Townsmen Club off Central Street in Mapleville will host a Prime Rib dinner on Saturday, Jan. 24 starting at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $35 and can be purchased at the club Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the door.
