January's Ponaganset High School newsletter recognized the PHS debate team for their performance in the Rhode Island Forensic League competition at Mt. Hope. Novice Yinon White, and varsity members Silvia Spaziano and Gabby Taillon were state qualifiers. Novice Elias Plata qualified for the state competition along with the team of Will Quattrucci and Yinon White. Senior Mackenzie Bell placed 6th out of 112 varsity debaters, and will also be competing at the state level in March.

James & the Giant Peach Jr.

The Ponaganset Middle School drama club will present Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach Jr. in the Nedo Pandolfi auditorium at Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.

Hartwell Motorsports fundraiser

Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike will host a fundraiser for Hartwell Motorsports on Saturday, Jan. 31 starting at 2 p.m. with food and raffles, including a 50/50. Help raise funds for another racing season at Thompson Speedway.

Live music

Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike will host The Earthmen on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 8 p.m. to midnight. At Cady’s, H.R.S. will perform on Saturday, starting at 8:30 p.m., with the weekly Roadhouse Blues on Sunday starting at 3 p.m.

RAMP

The Ponaganset High School Counseling Department recently earned recognition from the American School Counselor Association as a Recognized American School Counseling Model Program, and was one of the first two public high schools in Rhode Island to receive the award. The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering an exemplary school counseling program.

Galentine’s Night Out

The Gym in Chepachet will hold a Galentine’s Night Out on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Pinewood Pub at 16 Terry Lane from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Grab your girls for a dinner, dessert and craft.
