NORTH SMITHFIELD – A fire Wednesday night damaged a single-family home on Mattity Road, displacing the residents.
Firefighters were reportedly called to 26 Mattity Road around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 for a fire in the basement. The two-alarm blaze was knocked out quickly despite snowbank that made the home difficult to access, but not before it spread to a first floor bedroom.
The house also suffered smoke damage and is currently uninhabitable, according to reports.
Two people inside the house were evacuated safely, and no one was injured in the incident.
The cause of the fire in under investigation, but it believed to have started in the boiler room of the home.
