Taxes

The town of Glocester is reminding residents that third quarter tax payments were due on Monday, Feb. 2 and that interest/penalty will be applied on all past due bills Tuesday, March 3 on the unpaid quarter at the rate of 8 percent per annum retroactive to August 1, 2025. The remaining quarters will be due and payable as stated on the tax bill.

Real estate tax bills are mailed out once a year and were mailed at the end of July 2025. Anyone who has not received a tax bill should call (401) 568-6206 ext. 4. Rhode Island General Law 44-7-7 requires the local tax collector to send a notice to each taxpayer for the amount of tax owed, but specifies that the failure to receive the tax bill does not excuse the nonpayment of the tax or affect its validity or collection proceedings.

Any taxpayer moving within town or out of town and/or closing a business must notify the town with a forwarding address. Bills can be paid on the Town Hall website at www.glocesterri.gov, under Tax Collector tab by clicking on “Pay Your Tax Bill” or online at www.RIeGovernment.com.

A payment drop locked box is also located outside of Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike for those paying by check. In person payments are also accepted at the Town Hall tax collector’s office.

The Glocester Land Trust announced last week that the parking lots for Steere Farm, Sprague Farm and Hawkins Pond have all been plowed, thanking the Glocester Department of Public Works.

Roof safety

The Glocester Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents that heavy snow and ice accumulation on roof can pose a danger and lead to sudden structural failure. Snow removal may reduce risk, but improper removal greatly increases the chance of injury. Professional assistance is strongly recommended.

GEMA recommends using a snow rake from the ground and leaving 2-3 inches of snow on the roof. Homeowners should not climb on roofs, use ladders on icy surfaces or use flames, heaters or snowblowers. Residents are advised to evacuate immediately if they notice sagging or drooping roof areas; new or worsening leaks; cracking or splitting in frames, walls, ceilings or masonry; bends in structural supports; doors or windows that pop open or no longer close properly; bending utility pipes; or any creaking, cracking or popping sounds.
