BURRILLVILLE – With milder weather forecasts for this coming week, we should begin to see some melting of the snow that is currently covering the ground, and kids are more than likely to go out and enjoy snowboarding and sledding. It is also is a great time to remind children to wear helmets while engaging in winter activities in order to prevent unintentional head injuries. Don’t lose your head. Use your head.

The Fearless Dino Protector Squad wants little kids to always wear helmets while snowboarding and sledding – and to do so on safe ground. Do not snowboard or ride sleds on ice covered ponds or lakes, especially, this time of year with warmer temperatures and milder weather conditions that may directly impact safety conditions outdoors. Spring is nearly here and these firefighting and safety advocates dinosaur cartoon characters want to remind children of all ages to always play it safe all year long.

Jim Weicherding is a Burrillville resident, and the founder and creator of an award-winning traffic safety effort Seasons of Safety. Weicherding contributes kids’ coloring cartoons, which can be printed and used to help parents discuss safety issues with their children. He has a long list of police officers and firefighters in his family and has worked with law enforcement and firefighters in a creative public safety capacity for more than two decades
