Zeppole week, seed workshop & DECA wins: Seven things to know in North Smithfield this week

President’s Day

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16 in observance of President’s Day. Monday is not a trash holiday, however, and trash and recycling will be collected on the regular day for all residents for the remainder of the week.

Zeppole week

Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road will celebrate zeppole week from Tuesday, Feb. 17 to Saturday, Feb. 22, featuring six varieties, available daily while supplies last. The flavors are classic, chocolate, Irish cream, pistachio, orange cream and strawberry, and the three most popular – by vote – will continue to be available through St. Joseph’s Day.

Driving tour

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will host a driving tour of Waterford Village on Saturday, Feb. 21 starting at 9:30 a.m. The tour will include the Mammoth Mills Ruins, Blackstone Canal, Waterford Railroad Station, Tupper Mill, Hydro-Electric Plant, Covered Bridge Site, St. Paul’s Church, Waterford School, Railroad Fountain and Coblin Rock.

Participants will meet in the parking lot of Fire House Pizza on Great Road.

Members of the North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service participated in a Career Fair at North Smithfield High School last week.

Seed workshop

North Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will host a seed starting workshop on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon at Scouter’s Hall by Pacheco Park. 

Learn how to start your own vegetable and flower seeds for an early start. Hand outs will be provided with resources and tips. The workshop is free and all are invited. 

No reservation in required, but those who want more information should contact Ann Lilley at (401) 556-0853.

Little League

North Smithfield Little League has announced that registration is now open for the upcoming 2026 baseball season. Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit www.northsmithfieldll.com to sign up their children for a fun and rewarding baseball experience.

The North Smithfield Little League offers various baseball divisions suitable for players of all skill levels, including T-Ball, Minors, AAA, Majors, Juniors, and Seniors. Early registration is highly recommended, as the registration fee varies from $85 to $140 depending on the chosen division. There is a multiple child discount if registering siblings.

Player evaluations are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Wellness Center at Cumberland High School. The league notes it is an essential step in ensuring that players are placed in the appropriate division for their skill level and age group.

Students from North Smithfield High School competed against more than 1,000 statewide earlier this month at a DECA conference. The school congratulated the following students who won medals:

The North Smithfield Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17 starting at 10 a.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
