PROVIDENCE – A North Smithfield resident died on Tuesday in what’s been reported as the second death in Rhode Island from the historic blizzard that blanketed the region with snow on Monday.
The individual has not been publicly identified, and the Rhode Island Department of Health reportedly stated this week that the cause of the death had not officially been determined.
A spokesman for the department, however, stated that the death appeared to be related to shoveling.
The other blizzard-related death occurred in Newport, where a Salve Regina University student died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Officials also reported 263 emergency department visits related to the storm, including slip and falls, cardiac complaints due to shoveling and crashes.
