GLOCESTER – A three alarm fire Thursday evening caused heavy damage to a home in the Harmony section of town with snow on the ground and cold weather conditions complicating the response.
Firefighters from Harmony and Chepachet were called to 18 Old Quarry Road around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, and arrived to find heavy fire in the attic area of the two-story wood home, according to reports.
Efforts to extinguish the blaze were hindered by snow, with fire hydrants frozen, and mutual aid was called in from neighboring towns including Burrillville, Scituate, Smithfield and East Putnam, Conn.
Firefighters were reportedly at the scene for more than two and a half hours, and the second and third floors of the structure were heavily damaged.
The three-story ranch was built in 1980 according to town property records.
