Kindergarten registration, a working group & early shenanigans: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Kindergarten

In-person registration for students who plan to attend kindergarten in the Glocester School District in the fall will be held in room 9 of Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike on Tuesday, March 10 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 to 3 p.m.; and 4 to 6 p.m. Caregivers should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency and their license/ID.

Paint night

Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike will host a Shamrock Paint Night on Tuesday, March 10 from 5 to 5:45 p.m. The event is open to ages five and up with registration required here.

Working Group

The Northern Rhode Island Conservation District will hold a working group at Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike on Wednesday, March 11 starting at 6 p.m. The event aims to gather community feedback on what environmental concerns are affecting the region, and what issues locals are having on their farms. The information is confidential, and helps the USDA prioritize their services for the following program year.

This event is free and open to all, but farmers new and experienced are especially encouraged to attend. A Zoom link is also available on nricd.org.

Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations

The date is not officially until next week, but those looking to start their Saint Patrick’s Day celebration early with great food and drink will have the luck o’ the Irish with a few local options.

Mr. Z’s by the Lake at 2400 Putnam Pike will offer a special Saint Patrick’s Day food and dring menu from Thursday, March 12 through Saint Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17, featuring reuben sandwiches and all the green beer you can drink

Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike will hold their celebration on Sunday, March 15 with corned beef and cabbage, themed cocktails and Irish folk singing from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Live music

Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike will host Patchwork Band on Friday, March 13 with a show starting at 7:30 p.m., and 3 Can Jam on Saturday, March 14 starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, check out their weekly Roadhouse Blues Jam starting at 3 p.m.

At Hill’s Tavern, its a full lineup on Saturday with Tony Soul from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Tucker’s Creek from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 10 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here. The gathering will be followed by a meeting of the Foster-Glocester Regional School Committee starting at 7 p.m. for an agenda found here.

The Charter Review Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 10 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Housing Authority will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 10 starting at 7 p.m. in the community room at Pine Meadow at 56 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Conservation Commission is expected to hold a meeting on Thursday, March 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda should be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website.
