Leprechaun house

Pascoag Public Library at 57 Church St. will host a kids’ crafting event on Monday, March 16 making leprechaun houses. The free events starts at 4 p.m. and those with questions can call (401) 568-6226.

Pipelines

Climate Action RI will be at Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane on Monday, March 16 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. for a presentation dubbed Pipelines in Our Backyard – Burrillville. Representatives from CARI, No Pipeline Expansion – or NOPE – and Pipeline Awareness Action Network will discuss a methane gas pipeline expansion being proposed in town. The educational presentation will include talk on what it’s like to live near gas infrastructure and the impact that has on health, safety, property values, local costs and more.

The event was rescheduled from its original date of March 3.

Medicare assistance

The final schedule session for locals to get help with Medicare in the conference room at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane will take place this week, with office hours on Wednesday, March 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Burrillville Senior Services has sponsored the series, with officials on hand to help those who need help signing up or switching plans, and answer questions about new regulation changes.

Matilda Jr.

The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble will present Matilda Jr. the Musical at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. beginning this week, with performances scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21; and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. Additional showtimes have been scheduled for the following weekend.

The performance will be directed by Danielle Pennacchia and Jen Lade with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. Tickets cost $30 for general admission or $25 students, seniors and military members and are available at www.ristage.org.

Duck hunt

The DPNA’s popular duck hunt will take place beginning on Sunday, March 22, with residents invited to follow the organization’s Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok for clues as to where the rubber animals are hidden throughout town. Those who find a duck are invited to text the group a picture at (401) 626-5848 and receive a prize at the Easter Egg Hunt and shopping event to be held on Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hall of St. Joseph’s Church at 183 Sayles Ave.

Clues will be posted through Friday, March 27 and prizes re available for both grown ups and children, with just one to be given out person.

Plant-based cooking

Burrillville Seventh Day Adventist Church at 854 Victory Highway will host a free plant-based cooking class on Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m. All are welcome to the free event, to include demonstrations and food tastings of soup and sandwich recipes. Ducharme scholarship

Wright’s Farm Restaurant at 84 Inman Road has announced that applications are now open for the 10th annual George P. Ducharme Scholarship. Students may obtain a copy through the Burrillville High School Guidance Department or download it online at www.wrightsfarm.com/restaurant/about/scholarship/. Any questions regarding the application process should be directed to Burrillville High School.

Established in 2016 and named for lifetime Burrillville resident and former Burrillville High School principal George P. Ducharme, the scholarship awards $5,000 annually. The scholarship is open to Burrillville High School graduating seniors in the class of 2026 who have been accepted to a U.S.-based four-year college or university and will begin their studies in the fall.

Selection criteria are based on demonstrated achievement and need; academic and personal recommendations; academic accomplishments; school and community involvement; and additional factors as determined by the George P. Ducharme Scholarship Committee. Applications will be accepted through Monday, April 27. Completed applications should be submitted directly to Mr. Gennaro Ferraro, Room A13, at Burrillville High School.

One recipient will be chosen by a review committee appointed by Wright’s Farm Restaurant. The recipient will be chosen based on the information provided through the application process and will be announced at Burrillville High School’s Senior Award Night later this spring. The winning student will receive $5,000 to support their college expenses.

The Burrillville 250 Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, March 16 starting at 7 p.m. at the Burrillville Police station at 1477 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.
