BURRILLVILLE – The driver of a vehicle that veered off of Broncos Highway before landing on its side on the opposite side of the roadway late Tuesday morning had to be rescued using the Jaws of Life according to responders.

East Burrillville Fire Chief Joseph Bertholic said the man, a 70 year old from Foster, was in stable condition following the single-vehicle crash, and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Firefighter/EMTs were called to the area just south of Lapham Farm Road around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31 to find a pickup truck on its side with the driver trapped inside. The Harrisville Fire Department assisted at the scene with manpower and equipment.

According to Bertholic, the truck had been traveling northbound before the incident and had landed on the southbound side of the roadway. Bertholic said he did not know the cause on the crash, which is under investigation by the Burrillville Police Department.

Major Albert Carlow said the victim was conscious and alert as he was taken to the hospital.
