BURRILLVILLE – It’s opening weekend for fishing at ponds, streams and lakes across the state of Rhode Island. Plenty of fishing enthusiasts are out enjoying the nice weather while reeling in those fresh water trouts for dinner. It’s also the perfect time to remind kids and families about the importance of wearing life jackets while boating.

Li’l Skipper & Clam Cakes have been very popular water and boating safety cartoon characters for the past couple of decades here in the New England states as well as states up and down the east coast. The states without ocean views and shorelines have Li’l Skipper & Tackle Box cartoon characters reminding them about their safety out on open waters.

Li’l Skipper & Clam Cakes have been reaching out to Rhode Islanders for years, partnered with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Law Enforcement & Boating Safety Divisions. New educational and awareness community outreach efforts are in the works and under development for restaurants that involve distributing coloring placemats and posters, 4-page coloring books and fridge magnets for children and families enjoying meals inside these great establishments along the coastal communities this summer season.

Make sure there is at least one life jacket for everyone on board boats, and kids should wear them for the entire time on the water, with no exceptions.
