BURRILLVILLE – It’s April and that means we start to see area car shows start for the new season across the area and region. Local car shows and cruise nights actually begin this week but the full scale launch doesn’t happen until May.

Regardless of start dates; it’s important to remind kids and families to buckle up for safety every single time you travel anywhere. While attending classic car shows and cruise nights, kids should always remain with an adult and stay at least three feet away from vehicles. Kids should be boosted up and buckled up in backseats. Infants and toddlers should be properly restrained in rear-facing car seats also placed in vehicle backseats.

Buckleupallofus has been reminding children to wear seat belts since the 1990s nationwide at car shows and cruise nights. Buckleupallofus Child Passenger Safety Campaign is an award-winning vehicle and traffic safety campaign recognized by local, state and federal public safety advocates and law enforcement agencies across the U.S.

Please take a kid to a car show this car show season. In fact, take them as often as you can. Drive safe. Drive serious. Buckle up!

Jim Weicherding is a Burrillville resident, and the founder and creator of an award-winning traffic safety effort Seasons of Safety.
